Joleen Uhlig
Joleen is a mother of two daughters, an ex-drug addict, and a domestic abuse survivor. She got pregnant when she was only 17 and had to take care of her daughter alone. Her partner, an older married man, bailed on her as soon as he learned about her pregnancy. If it weren’t for her mother and family, she wouldn’t have had two pennies to rub together.
After a series of failed relationships, drug addiction, cheating fiancé, and another pregnancy later, Joleen finally learned to stand on her feet. She met Justin at the saloon she worked at, and the two hit it off immediately.
Justin
Justin is a US military veteran struggling with PTSD yet still trying to make things easy for Joleen and her family. He joined the military for lack of choices, but his whole life is shaped by his experiences on the field. Justin feels strongly about the struggles of veterans and is an advocate of mental health.
Justin met Joleen when his marriage was going through a rough patch and felt consoled by her courage. They have been together ever since and are now adopting their grandson.
Chasing the Dark is their shared attempt to reconnect with Joleen’s daughter, who had suffered the same fate as Joleen at 17.
